// MODULE 2 OF 10 · ARTIST ACADEMY v1.0 · MASTER EN · 2026-08-16
Two copyrights, one song.
Every track is two works: the composition (the song) and the recording (this take of it). Metadata serves both.
The Split
KNOW THE TWOThe composition belongs to writers and publishers — performing rights organizations track it. The recording (the master) belongs to whoever owns the master — SoundExchange tracks its digital-radio use. One song covered by three bands = one composition, three recordings.
Your Metadata Job
EVERY TRACKEvery submission carries: exact title, exact artist name, all writers as legally named, the ISRC for the recording, and honest ownership answers. The network's logs pay you only as accurately as your metadata — sloppy tags are unclaimed money.
